He first studied at the Hochschule für Musik "Franz Liszt" in Weimar, majoring in trombone. This was followed by his artistic training at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim, with a focus on chamber music and orchestral soloist.

After several years of experience as a trombonist, among others at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Klassische Philharmonie Stuttgart and as 1st solo trombonist with the Frankfurter Sinfoniker (until today), he continued his training as a conductor. He studied with Douglas Bostock, Tobias Mahl, Prof. Peter Vierneisel and Steven Lloyd Gonzales, the principal conductor of the New Philharmonic Orchestra Frankfurt.

In recent years he has successfully conducted several wind orchestras in the upper and highest categories. His precise ideas of intonation and orchestral interplay enabled him to obtain numerous teaching and conducting engagements.

Jan Henneberger is still active as a lecturer for trombone, for example at the Bundesakademie Trossingen and at the Badische Posaunenarbeit.
