Adrian Sebastian Werum ( *1969 )

The present string quartet was written shortly after I graduated from high school in my hometown Mainz. As a young man, I wanted to apply to study composition and was able to free myself somewhat from the composition class of Friedrich-Karl Wanek at the Peter Cornelius Conservatory in Mainz, which was solid in terms of craftsmanship, but nevertheless very much tied to the intellectual musical currents of the 20th century, and to which I was allowed to belong as an extraordinary participant.
Apart from classical compositional technique, I was inspired at that time above all by jazz and blues. And not only the more experienced ears will notice the similarity to Chick Corea’s “Spain” in the 1st movement.
I hope you enjoy practicing and concertizing….
