Whygold’s Weekend

… under this motto I present you my music tip for the weekend.

Maybe one or the other discovers something new.

Consciously listening to music is, in my opinion, as important as reading a good book.

Keb’ Mo’ (born October 3, 1951 in Los Angeles, California; real name Kevin Moore) is an American blues singer, guitarist and songwriter. His great role model is the blues legend Robert Johnson.

Although he draws on Robert Johnson’s music, he reworks it in a contemporary way, incorporating elements of soul and folk into his music. Early on, Moore had his own calypso band. In the 1970s and 1980s, he played with various blues bands, including Papa John Creach‘s backing band. A solo album recorded in 1980 flopped. In 1983 he became a guitarist in Monk Higgins Band. Here he met various blues musicians who influenced his guitar style. Keb’ Mo’ himself describes this period as the most important in his musical development.

It wasn’t until 1994 that his next solo album , Keb’ Mo’, was released, marking the beginning of his solo career under that name. Since then, he has received five Grammys (Best Contemporary Blues Album) for Just Like You, Slow Down, Keep It Simple, TajMo (co-written with Taj Mahal) and 2020 for Oklahoma in the category (Best Americana Album).

Back in 1990, Keb’ Mo’ had a role as a blues musician in a play. In 1997 he played Robert Johnson in the film Can’t You Hear the Wind Howl?, and in 2007 in Honeydripper.

In 1997, 2001 and 2002 he played the “Angel of Music” and a music-making preacher in the series A Breath of Heaven (episode 3×29, 7×24, 7×25 and 9×09).

Keb’ Mo’ prefers to play Gibson small-body acoustic guitars. In his honor, the company released the Keb’ Mo’Bluesmaster signature guitar.

I’m honestly not the biggest blues fan, but what Keb’ Mo’ does with his voice, his guitar and his songs touches me in a very special way. This album is really the hammer !

Have fun listening to this album !
