Whygold’s Weekend

Whygold’s Weekend

… under this motto I present you my music tip for the weekend.

Maybe one or the other discovers something new.

Consciously listening to music is, in my opinion, as important as reading a good book.

Today: Bob Mintzer – Spectrum

Bob Mintzer (born January 27, 1953 in New Rochelle, New York) is an American jazz and fusion musician(saxophone, clarinet, wind transducer) as well as a composer, arranger and bandleader.

Mintzer worked with musicians such as Eumir Deodato, Tito Puente, Buddy Rich and Hubert Laws in the mid-1970s and was a member of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra in 1977. Since 1978 he led his own band, with which he recorded more than twenty albums. In addition, he has performed with Jaco Pastorius, Mike Mainieri, Louie Bellson, Bob Moses and the American Saxophone Quartet, among others, and has made guest appearances with various symphony orchestras. Since 1991 he has been a member of the fusion band Yellowjackets.

Mintzer took over as principal conductor of the WDR Bigband in the summer of 2016, succeeding Richard DeRosa.[1] On May 7, 2021, Leopard/jazzline released the abum Soundscapes with ten tracks, recorded with him on the “Electronic Wind Instrument” and the WDR Bigband.
